This exhibition reflects my experience of migration—moving between the physical architecture of
“home” and the emotional work of grounding myself in a new place. The installation brings
together forms shaped by the Prairie winter and the cultural memory of being Persian: childhood
play, language, Farsi calligraphy, and the emotional geographies that continue to define my sense
of belonging.
Across these compositions, landscape-inspired fragments meet graphic structures that echo the
rhythm of Farsi script. These asemic marks—gestures that resemble writing without forming
words—carry movement, lived history, and cultural resonance rather than a literal language.
Drawing from the layered spatial logic of Persian miniature painting, the work holds multiple
worlds at once: interior and exterior, past and present, here and elsewhere. By weaving Prairie
forms with Persian visual structures, this body of work creates a space where displacement,
remembrance, and reinvention coexist, offering a visual language for the in-between state of
migration.

My practice emerges from the tension between constraint and the desire for liberation. Rooted in
the architectural and narrative traditions of Persian painting, my work carries the spatial logic of
my childhood—staircases, courtyards, water channels, and layered miniature spaces that
continue to shape how I understand movement and belonging. Migration reshaped my
relationship to these foundations; distance created clarity, and clarity created longing. In the winter
landscapes of Manitoba, I found forms in snow that echoed the curves of calligraphy, revealing
an unexpected return to myself. Through collage, spatial reconstruction, and installation, I explore
how memory shifts when the body moves but the imagination remains tied to earlier places. I ask
how remembered and lived landscapes overlap within an interior landscape, forming new
possibilities for identity. My work creates spaces where longing, grounding, and becoming
coexist—where belonging is shaped through continual transformation rather than inheritance.
