Upcoming Exhibition at aceartinc., Momentary Voices.

WINNIPEG, APRIL  2024— aceartinc. is pleased to announce Momentary Voices, an upcoming duo exhibition by Ibrahim Shuaib and Scotland Cook.

On Friday, May 3 from 6-9PM, we welcome you to join our opening celebration.

Exhibition run: May 3 – June 14, 2024

MOMENTARY VOICES

In this abstract and mixed narrative, Shuaib and Cook explore the aesthetics of entropy and chaos; the delicate balance between order and disorder, creation and destruction. Employing different materials and styles, their interests intersect at the junction of existentialism, probing the meaning of life and the nature of fate.

Momentary Voices—those which elude us, a poetry of direction/misdirection; an invincible/invisible guide to the ephemeral nature of reality and the transient whispers of time. With considered approaches that verge on obsessive, Cook and Shuaib intermingle artistic intent with transitory chance.

This exhibition underscores the temporary nature of our lives and the prudence of artistic expression. Momentary Voices offers an accumulation of the thoughts, words, actions, choices, and movements of the artists – all of which are momentary.

Ibrahim seeks to unravel the layers of his human experience, inviting viewers to join in on a lifetime journey to self-discovery.

Scotland Cook

Born in Winnipeg and raised across the United States and Canada, my practice and inspirations are informed by a range of influences. My work is an attempt to find something real, tangible and genuine to hold onto within our cultural milieux, as we soar towards what seems like the end of existence.

As an artist and curator, my focus falls somewhere between exploration and exposition of the material conditions of life. The intention of my art ranges from piece to piece, but at the core there is a focus on materiality, degradation, and on fleeting moments of time. I take inspiration from artists such as Pollock, whose works captured me as a child, the urban art of graffiti, which reclaims our public spaces, and the writings of Kafka, Foucault, and Camus. Moving across materials and art forms, my practice is rooted in process-based works which critically reference modernity through various forms of entropic degradation and destruction.
